The Garden of Eden was not merely humanity's first home; it was God's holy sanctuary, the place where heaven and earth met and where humanity enjoyed unbroken fellowship with its Creator. Into that sacred space entered a being unlike any ordinary creature. This figure understood God's command, challenged God's authority, questioned God's goodness, and offered humanity an alternative path to wisdom apart from obedience. From the very first words spoken by the serpent, we are confronted not with animal instinct but with deliberate spiritual rebellion.

This journey will also challenge some familiar ideas. Certain traditional pictures may need to be reconsidered. Some commonly repeated assumptions may not withstand close examination of the biblical text. That is not something to fear. The goal of faithful Bible study has never been to preserve tradition for its own sake, but to understand God's Word as accurately as possible. Every generation of believers is called to return to Scripture with open hearts and minds, allowing God's revelation—not human imagination—to shape our understanding.
